A gentleman approached me and was effusive in his gratitude to me for the homily that I preached at the Chrism Mass earlier in the week. I asked him what he appreciated about the homily. His response: “You talked about all of our wounds. You talked to me. You made me feel that I didn’t need to be perfect to be welcome in the Church.” My friends, the Church is a gathering of the wounded. It always has been, and it always will be.
